Away, away out on the ocean
Away out on the deep blue sea
Where I could know the world’s true motion
Under the stars I long to be
If I could see the distant shore lights slowly fade from view
As the night sky shatters into a million stars
Or hear the creak of timber as the mast begins to strain
I believe that this old heart could heal the scars
If I could feel the salt spray blowing in my face again
On the wind that almost takes my breath away
Or feel the rolling motion of the deep beneath my feet
Old memories would soon drift far away
If I could watch the sunrise set the morning sky on fire
As gulls glide high above the far off shore
Or hear the wind luff in the sails as I turn around for home
I’d surely find a way to start once more
