Time for a little change
Not all stories turn into songs... and not all songs get recorded...
There is no new songbook entry today. After 54 weekly posts we are changing to a monthly schedule. If you are a recent subscriber, you may have missed the earlier entries but you can access all the posts—and the links to the YouTube videos— in the Songbook SubStack. Subscriptions to the Robbie O’Connell Songbook, both SubStack and YouTube, are free. Thanks to all who have subscribed already. If you are a SubStack subscriber and have not subscribed on YouTube as well, please take a minute to do so. We are hoping to get an Official Artist Channel and need at least 500 subscribers—we have 354 at the moment. Another 150 would help us enormously. You won’t get any emails or anything—you won’t even get a notification of new video uploads unless you click on the Notifications bell. You will just be letting YouTube know that you like and appreciate Robbie’s work (especially if you give the video a Thumbs Up!) and that helps.
The next song will be posted on 30th August and future song postings will continue monthly for as long as there are songs to post. There are more songs to come. Some were written a while ago and even performed in concert but never recorded in a mindful way. There are also new songs that have not yet been recorded. Some are ready and still more are written and maturing—song writing is a funny process as those who have ever been in one of my songwriting classes at Elkins or the Catskills will appreciate.
But not all stories turn into songs. When I started writing the “blurbs” for the backstories on the songs, I discovered that I really enjoyed this other form of writing. So now I’m thinking of also publishing some stories in addition to the songs. I’m feeling my way into that and it may take some time to build up steam but it feels like a natural shift. I’d be interested in hearing what you think.

The photo is of the Blackwater River (Amhain Mhor na Mumhan) from a nearby lookout point. In the distance one can see the Knockmealdown Mountains that border Waterford and Tipperary, the counties where Robbie was born and then raised. This image of the river, its valley and the mountains is an absolute favorite.
I love the melody for this post, Robbie! One of your finest…👀😂
Looking forward to next month!! 💚
